Intelligent Strategies in Design,
Manufacturing and Management |
Welcome
PROLAMAT is a well-known event in the field of manufacturing automation. As the "PROgraming LAnguages for MAchine Tools" conference, this triennial event has been a basic meeting for academic and industrial experts in manufacturing automation since 1969. Recently not only the original topics, but all other aspects of the computerized design and production of products and production systems from traditional to virtual ones are covered and dealt with, taking into account also life-cycle issues. PROLAMAT is traditionally sponsored by IFIP
( International Federation of Information Processing ). It is an honor for the organizers to welcome again the PROLAMAT conference participants, as it is the first time for PROLAMAT to select Shanghai as the venue.
ScopePrice, time and quality are no longer sufficient to gain competitive advantage. It is high value knowledge, which provides the opportunities for adding exclusive value to products and services of an enterprise. Knowledge strategy will be related to innovation, learning and agility. Innovation, or the conversion of great research into great products, learning, or the gaining of knowledge from experience, agility, or quick response to the dynamic changes, are the important rules of international industrial competition these days as companies must respond to shifts in global markets quickly and effectively by delivering new products in the shortest time, with the highest quality and the lowest costs. The successful enterprise of our century will be characterized by an organizational structure that supports process thinking and captures experience and intelligence based on information. It deftly responds to customers' demands and changing global conditions, no matter how large the enterprise becomes. It will create a corporate culture that empowers employees at all levels and facilitates constant communication among related groups. It will have a technological infrastructure that fully supports process improvement and integration despite unexpected changes in corporate direction. To keep up with rapid developments in global manufacturing, the enterprise must first look at its organization and culture, and then at its supporting technologies. Too often, companies throw vast capital at technology to catch up to competitors only to find that their employees are still clinging to the same attitudes, methods, and timetables that caused problems in the first place. This conference will concentrate on knowledge strategies in life cycle of product creation and will try to bring industry and academia closer.
